CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -

A house fire has killed a woman unwilling to leave the burning dwelling until she found her dog.

Chattanooga fire investigators are looking into the death of the woman whose name has been withheld.

A man escaped from the blaze around 7 a.m. Saturday after trying to convince his girlfriend to
leave and eventually losing track of her after she ran down a hallway.

The man, whose name also was withheld, told firefighters the house became too hot for him to remain after the woman ran down a hallway calling for her dog and he fled through a window.

Firefighters found a body in the house around 9 a.m.

An autopsy to confirm the woman's identity and cause of death will be performed by the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office.
