Nashville cancer center begins new testing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville has begun a line of mutation testing for breast cancer patients.

Such patients will now have their breast tumor tissue tested for gene mutations important for treatment decisions.

Information from genetic tests will then be used to match each patient to the best cancer therapies available, including drugs in early clinical trials.

Routine mutation screening already is done for all lung cancer and melanoma patients.
