Community raises $36K to help injured teacher

Nearly $36,000 was raised on Saturday for a fund to help bring home a local teacher who was injured in South Korea.

Organizers held a 5K run and an auction to raise funds to bring Wes Putman home. Putman was crossing an eight-lane highway in South Korea when he was hit by a taxi and left paralyzed.

The funds raised at the "Heart to Soul 5K Run" will go toward the cost of an air ambulance to bring Putman home. The cost for the ride home is $134,000.

Putman, 26, is a teacher who was hired to teach English to elementary students in South Korea.

There has been a fund set up for Putman at First Farmers and Merchants Bank in Lawrenceburg.
