BOWLING GREEN, KY (WSMV) -

A person accused of killing a pregnant woman and cutting the baby from the lifeless body in April pleaded not guilty Friday morning.

Kathy Coy entered the plea in a Warren County, Ky., courtroom.  The judge set a pre-trial conference for Sept. 19.

Police arrested Coy in April after she showed up a local hospital with a newborn. The baby boy belonged to Jamie Stice, 21, who was eight months pregnant.

The child is now in the care of Stice's family.

Details From April Hearing

Kentucky State Police Detective Chad Winn testified in an earlier hearing that Stice was killed by Coy, who then took the baby to a friend's house and claimed she had just given birth.

The friend drove Coy and the baby to a hospital, where doctors determined it wasn't her child, said Winn. Coy later claimed she bought the baby for $550 from another woman, according testimony.

Winn said Coy subdued Stice with a stun gun, slit her throat and wrists and then cut the child from her womb.

Winn testified that Coy told both her grown children that she had a miscarriage, and asked them if they would help her commit a murder. When they said no, he said she told them that she was just kidding.
