Troubled Hoeganaes Plant Reopens

Posted: Updated:
GALLATIN, TN (WSMV) -

The troubled Hoeganaes plant is open for business Monday after two deadly explosions and critical review by safety inspectors.

Two workers died in an explosion and flash fire in the plant last month. A third person remains in critical condition.

The deaths last month were the fourth of the year at the plant.

Hoeganaes reopened for production after cleanup and repairs were made to the facility.

Some in Gallatin said the reopening is vital to keep many local people employed, but they're also concerned for those workers' safety.

"I think it's all right as long as it's safe," said Vader Stultz, a Gallatin resident. "It's an accident waiting to happen out there the way they've been working it with all that dust and not checking those hydrogen lines."

Inspectors said a buildup of dust has been a continual problem at the plant.
