Rutherford County first LEED Certified or ‘Green' multi-use building is just weeks away from being completed. The gateway village is located right in the middle of Murfreesboro new medical district. Folks will be able to ‘live, work and play' without ever leaving home.

Building contractor Joe Swanson said the Gateway Village was designed with the environment in mind from the parking lot that filters rain water.  "Our paver system which is a water quality system," said Joe Swanson.

The sprinkler system is also environmentally friendly,  "We are using reclaimed water for our irrigation and flushing our toilets here, added Swanson.

The glue used to install the hardwood even the paint on the wall was taken into consideration, "Also the paint is a low voc (volatile organic compounds) paint."

The Gateway Village will also have parking for fuel efficient vehicles, charges stations will also be added.

Bella Optical is the first commercial business to purchase space in the gateway village. Owner Cindy Jones says the green elements were part of her decision to relocate here.  "We got two things in one, save the earth and be right in the middle of everything," said Jones.

Gateway Village LEED certification is a selling point for Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce officials. "With all the synergy we have going on here with the different offices and headquarters looking it's a great asset said the Chamber Economic Development vice president Holly Sears.
