Following a series of investigations by the Channel 4 I-Team, the U.S. Department of Labor has confirmed it is investigating Nashville-based United Benefits of America.

Federal labor officials are not commenting on the focus of their investigation.

The company is already under investigation by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

An I-Team investigation showed managers teaching and encouraging employees to lie to customers, many suffering from cancer or AIDS.

Former customers from four different states told the I-Team the company mislead them into believing they were buying regular insurance, only to receive discount cards in the mail.

Following the investigations, employees either resigned or were fired. Representatives from UBA have yet to respond to requests for comment by the I-Team.

In July, the I-Team reported that former employees had sued the company, claiming they had not been paid for past wages. It is unclear if that is what the U.S. Department of Labor is investigating.
