Mayor Didn't Sign Criminal Court Clerk Ouster

Updated: May 23, 2011

A spokeswoman for Nashville Mayor Karl Dean downplayed Monday the fact that he didn't sign a resolution calling for the ouster of Criminal Court clerk David Torrence.

Metro Council voted unanimously on the memorializing resolution after a Channel 4 I-Team investigation found Torrence playing hooky nearly half of last year and admitting he only works three days a week.

Dean did not sign that resolution.

One of Dean's opponents in the mayoral race, Councilman Michael Craddock, is already chiding Dean, but the mayor's spokeswoman said he doesn't sign off on memorializing resolutions unless they are honorary.

Dean did tell the I-Team that he thought Torrence needed to get back to work.
