It's hard enough to find a job these days, but it's even more of a challenge for ex-felons. Whether they don't have the necessary jobs skills or that few employers are willing to give them a chance, they struggle to find work.
Studies have shown that meaningful employment is an important factor in determining whether someone reoffends and ends up back in prison.
State Rep. Brenda Gilmore is teaming up with the Nashville NAACP, the McGruder Center and several community organizations to sponsor a job fair for ex-felons.
The New Beginnings Job Fair will be held Saturday at Hartman Park (2801 Tucker Road) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Not only will there be various employers, but people to help with resume writing and offer other advice.
Ex-offenders will also learn how to get their voting rights restored and housing information.
