County Waste Dept. Wants Proper Recycling 2-09-2011

The Rutherford County Solid Waste Department wants city and county schools to start recycling more. Right now, many schools are mixing trash with recycled waste.
If schools don't fix the problem by spring break, they'll have to deal with the consequences.
"The recycle driver will go to the container, look in it and if it's trashed, he'll leave; he won't dump anything," said Mac Nolen, Rutherford County solid waste director. "Then the garage truck, which is going in behind him, won't dump, either. That way, they'll just sit there with the containers full. That will get their attention. Once they start recycling, we can get the recycle commodities going well."
Nolen said once Middle Point Landfill in Murfreesboro stops accepting trash, the county will have to pay to ship it someplace else.
