ISO: Titans New Coach Should Come From Afar 1-31-2011

NASHVILLE,TennMultiple media outlets that the Titans will interview three in-house candidates for their vacant head coach position Monday: OL coach Mike Munchak, OC Mike Heimerdinger and LB coach Dave Mcginnis. Munchak is the obvious lead candidate of that group, with Dinger's health concerns and Mcginnis' line backing core under achieving last year. But hiring an "in-house" candidate doesn't bring the change the Titans need.
The funk surrounding this team that caused the parting with Vince Young, Chuck Cecil to lose his job, Jim Washburn to leave town and finally Jeff Fisher to step down has to be washed off.
The Titans need a fresh start and a fresh face. They need a coach who can fix the defense and find ways to take advantage of CJ and Kenny Britt. This team is not built like the old Titans. The offense consist of some real home run hitters who needs to be let loose. This doesn't have to be a full rebuilding process. The core is solid. The mentality and direction need a change.
Why get rid of a guy who has run the team for 16 years and replace him with someone who has been with the organization for 26 years. It's not forward thinking. It's not new blood.
The Titans need a young assistant, someone with fire, emotion, passion and drive it takes to create a spark or buzz for this team. They need a coach who will fire up the fan base and create some excitement for this team. Otherwise it's going to be same old boring Titans.
