According to firefighters, the fire broke out at about 9 a.m. at Glen Leven, which was built back in 1857.
Most of the damage was done to a back hallway, according to officials with The Land Trust For Tennessee.
There was no word yet on what caused the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
Glen Leven served as a hospital for Union troops during the Battle of Nashville.
The home and surrounding 65 acres were willed to The Land Trust For Tennessee in 2006 by the late Susan West.
