The McWherter campaign confirmed that Clinton is scheduled to be in Nashville on Sept. 9. A free rally and fundraiser will be held at Hall of Fame Park, located next to the downtown Nashville Hilton hotel, at 6:30 p.m. It's open to the public, but those who want to attend must register at www.mikemcwherter.com/. Asked after a candidate forum on Tuesday night whether he expects Clinton to return for more appearances, McWherter said: "Very possibly." McWherter, the son of former Gov. Ned McWherter, faces Republican Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam in this fall's election. Clinton's friendship with Ned McWherter dates back to when he was governor of neighboring Arkansas. Clinton was the keynote speaker for a state Democratic Party fundraiser last year, and also came to Nashville and Memphis to support Harold Ford Jr.'s Senate bid in 2006. Republican Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam said he doesn't expect to bring in any former presidents to support his bid. "We're comfortable with the fundraising approach that we've taken, and we're obviously continuing to work on that," Haslam said.
