A section of Granny White Pike located about a half-mile north of Old Hickory Boulevard was closed to traffic Thursday due to a roadway cave-in around a culvert.
Metro Public Works discovered the problem earlier in the day and immediately closed one lane of the roadway to traffic, city officials said in a news release. The issue occurred near Richland Country Club.
Crews are preparing to begin work to replace a 60-inch diameter metal pipe with a similar one made of concrete. The problem occurred from severe flooding this month.
The work will require the road to be closed until at least sometime Friday evening, city officials said.
Drivers are advised to avoid this area of Granny White Pike. Crews have set up detour routes:
- Westbound Old Hickory Boulevard traffic: north on Hillsboro Pike to Otter Creek Road to Granny White
- Eastbound Old Hickory Boulevard traffic: north on Franklin Pike to Tyne Boulevard to Granny White
- Southbound Granny White Pike traffic: follow Tyne Boulevard east to Franklin Pike
