Marine Captain To Vie For Gordon's Seat 4-13-2010

An Iraq war veteran is the latest person to throw his hat into the ring to replace retiring Rep. Bart Gordon.
Marine Capt. Ben Leming has filed to run as a Democrat for the 6th Congressional District, but he can't actively campaign until he completes his active duty service on May 1.
His campaign slogan -- "Mission First, Politics Second" -- plays off his military experience.
"It's those things that are inside of Ben that caused him to become a Marine in the first place and was honed in the Marine Corps -- his sense of values, his sense of family, his sense of locale and community," said attorney Bob Tuke. "His service to the nation is an indication of the kind of service he will provide the nation as a congressman."
Leming is among 19 candidates in the race: seven Republicans, seven Democrats, including Leming, and five independents.
