Tenn. Ranks 11 For STD Cases 4-02-2010

April is STD Awareness Month, and a new report shows where Tennessee stands in the number of cases compared to other states.
Tennessee ranks 11 overall for the number of STD cases, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. The state ranks 17 for the HIV and AIDS cases.
According to the study, 15 to 24 years olds are most affected with the diseases
STDs cost the American health care system an estimated $15.9 billion each year.
Health officials said there are several ways to protect oneself from STDs: abstinence, using protection and getting annual screenings.
