NASHVILLE, TennDay 2 of the SEC men's Basketball Tournament. The higher seeds hit the floor for the first time for some pretty big games including Tennessee vs Ole Miss and Alabama vs Kentucky. UT will need to play a heck of a lot better then they did against LSU if they don't want to get run out of the gym.
UK vs Bama
11:00am It's raining in Nashville but that doesn't stop the Blue Mist from looking for tickets. They are everywhere. Had to park a little farther from Bridgestone Arena then yesterday, thanks to the above mentioned fan club.
11:20am Now that my laptop is all settled in it's time for Lunch. What's on the menu today?
11:55am The chicken salad was great. I walked out of the tunnel into a see of Kentucky blue. Bridgestone Arena is rock'n. I try to make my way to the media over-spill area and I am stopped by Rudy Kalis and Terry Bulger. They have an extra seat next to them so I sit down. The white half court line splits my body, 3 rows from the floor. Not a minute after I settle in the arena erupts. John Wall and the Kentucky Wildcats run out onto the court.
12:45pm Bama is out hustling Kentucky up and down the floor. They are out rebounding them and shooting them from the 3 point line. The loud Kentucky crowd is quiet at this point. Down by as much as 13 at one point they are starting to crawl back but they are still down big.
1:00pm UK finishes the half strong. They went 0-7 from behind the arc until the last shot of the half. The Cats went into the locker room down 35-30. I went into the tunnel at half time so I could come back to the station. I was almost ran over by Kentucky's number one lady Ashley Judd.
1:10pm As I get back to my car the sun is out and it's beautiful outside. I would still rather be inside at half court for the 2nd half of the game but duty calls.
1:10-1:25pm I'm listening to 3 Hour Lunch on my way back and the have a great interview with Former UAB coach John Prince, the father of J.P. Prince. As the second half starts John Wall's Charisma takes over. Down 40-34, Wall leads UK back on a 21-5 lead and the Cats never looked back.
2:15pm Kentucky-73, Alabama-67.
2:40pm Tennessee and Ole Miss tip off. J.P. Prince starts the game off with a big 3.
2:55pm Five minutes into the game, UT had 15 points. It took them 16 minutes for them to get to that point against LSU.
3:30pm There's plenty of scoring in today's game. Ole Miss is running with the Vols and its helping UT put points on the board. Tennessee didn't do well with the zone and the slow game LSU played yesterday. Volunteers are done 35-36 at the half.
4:45pm UT played well in the second half. They pulled away beating Ole Miss 76-65. They will take on Kentucky tomorrow at Noon. It will be one of the hardest tickets to get in SEC Championship History. Check back to see how I'll be spending the day at Bridgestone Arena.
In the 3rd game of the day Mississippi State took down Florida 75-69. It was a must win for the Bulldogs who still need to pad their resume if they want to make the NCAA tournament. This win, over a team mostly bound for the dance, will definitely help.
8:50pm Vandy tips of against Georiga. This should be a good game. The Commodores beat the Bulldogs in overtime here in Nashville, but the Dogs took them in Athens.
9:04pm A.J. Oglivy starts off 3-3 and get 6 early points.
9:22pm Beal continues to hit 3 after 3. This guy is going to make a impact in the NBA next year.
9:30pm Since Beal hit that huge 3 UGA lead by Travis Lesliehas gone on a 10-1 run over a two minute period.
9:35pm Vandy returns the favor, going on their own 7-0 run over the next 2 minutes.
10:03pm Georgia comes out of the half on fire, scoring the first 6 points of the half. It was all started by a Leslie fast break dunk. He can flat out jump out of the gym, and the dunk gives him 18 points with almost the whole second half to go. Georgia needs it because Trey Thompkins, their leading scorer, waited till the 21st minute of the game to get his first basket. He then got another right away.
10:35pm Going home to watch the rest of the game from the recliner, Vandy starting to pull away. Hopefully they'll still be winning when I get home.
Saturday Morning Big win for Vandy. They will take on Mississippi State at 2:15pm.
