"(The) thing to remember is folks sometimes get off their program and they're off for a few days, maybe a week. The important thing is get back on your program, don't let it prolong until you slip off completely," said Stephen Taylor, a fitness, running and triathlon coach.
It's also the time of year people decide to try the Country Music Half Marathon or take on a new challenge, such as triathlons.
"Approaching a running program, you need to be smart, not just highly motivated for a few weeks, so getting into a running club or running program helps build gradually and safely, because most folks get injured rather than running out of motivation when training for a marathon," said Taylor.
There's a free fitness and triathlon expo Saturday morning at the Wellness Center at Baptist Hospital.
"There's really something for anyone and everyone," said Taylor. "We've got over 40 exhibitors, five speakers and even a bike show."
Channel 4's Rudy Kalis is one of the featured speakers.
The expo runs from 8 a.m. to noon. It's free, but a $5 donation is requested to help the Girls on the Run program that teaches pre-teen girls self confidence and fitness through running.
"I want it to be accessible to beginners and, hopefully, many of your viewers who have thought about getting their fitness goals going this year will come on down, but there's something here literally for everyone," Taylor said.
