Group: 1/3 Of Flood Victims Back In Homes

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Country star Garth Brooks' concerts for flood victims could make a difference. As of Friday, people working on the situation estimated about one-third of flood victims are back in their homes.

A week before Thanksgiving, less than one out of four flood families were back in their homes, according to River Park Cares. A week before Christmas, it's up to one-third.

The River Park Cares tent, a place where volunteers would gather to help flood victims, has been replaced by the new Bellevue resource center. Marc and Shannon Shaffer of River Park Cares and Bill Burks of the United Methodist Recovery Center are working daily to find the missing pieces to get people back home.

The trailer is overflowing with Christmas decorations free for anyone who lost ornaments in the flood.

While Channel 4 News was there Friday, a man dropped by with two Tennessee Titans tickets. He said he thought a couple of flood victims might appreciate an afternoon to escape.

To help, call Burks with the United Methodist Recovery Center at 615-485-3210 or e-mail River Park Cares at help@riverparkcares.us.
