$800K In Flood Claims May Be Denied

Updated: Feb. 4, 2011

The federal government may not reimburse some cities for flood claims.

Ashland City's attorney told City Council members this week that more than $800,000 in claims could be denied, possibly impacting Nashville and Clarksville as well.

That's because the Federal Emergency Management Agency may not be required to pay for flood damages if the Corps of Engineers has legal rights to property along the Cumberland River.

There's no word on when FEMA will make a final decision.
