On January 7th the lake level in the tail water of Nickajack was high and slowly falling. The level in the lake was low and steadily rising. The temperature in the back water was 38 and 41 out on the river channel.
Crappie - With the water running at 90,000cfs in the past few weeks and very dirty water the crappie fishing has gotten tough. There are some fish coming from the bridges and culverts. The beat bait seems to be a 1/32 to 1/16 oz with a grub in white body chartreuse tail. An 8-10 count seems to be the most productive. They are suspended in 10-15 fow.
Bass - The bass fishing has become slow as well with muddy water and high current. The best fishing is way up in the river from suck creek and up fishing the mouths of sloughs with rigs and jerkbaits. There are also some fish getting caught in current breaks on jig and countdowns.
Good luck and good fishing!
