People commented and issued statements following the news of Steve McNair's death on Saturday. The body of former Tennessee Titans quarterback was found alongside a 20-year-old woman, Sahel Kazemi, in a downtown Nashville condo.

  • "I'm still in shock since hearing the news yesterday," said Titans quarterback Vince Young. "I spent all afternoon and night thinking about my life on and off the field with Pops. Since I was a teenager, he was like a father to me. I hear his advice in my head with everything I do. Life will be very difficult without him."

  • "Sharing the NFL MVP honor with him in 2003 was special because of what a great football player he was," said Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who said he had some great battles with Steve McNair. "I had the opportunity to play in a couple of Pro Bowls with him, and the time spent with him in Hawaii I'll never forget. I'll truly miss him. My condolences go out to his family."

  • "We played together, hung out together, had conversations about life outside of the game," said Eddie George, McNair's former Titans teammate.

  • Country music singer Hank Williams Jr., who has recorded the theme for "Monday Night Football" for 21 years, said in a statement released Sunday, "The NFL has lost a great player, and I have lost a great friend. McNair was a good guy, helping many with his humanitarian efforts, and he will be missed."

  • Metro Councilwoman Edith Langster called McNair "a role model and a legend."

  • Gov. Phil Bredesen released a statement Saturday, saying, "Andrea (Conte) and I were very saddened by the news of Steve McNair's death. He has always felt like part of the Nashville family, and he will be sorely missed."

  • "We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today," said 'Bud' Adams Jr., owner of the Tennessee Titans. "He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
