A gala will be held May 26 at LP Field to salute Coach Ed Temple, 81, who coached famous track stars, like Olympic gold medal winner and Clarksville native Wilma Rudolph.

The event will include a silent auction and a living-history presentation to honor Temple.

Proceeds will benefit the New Hope Academy in Franklin on behalf of Temple's foundation. Funds will be used to help build a middle school in honor of the coach.

Also, on Memorial Day of 2010, the inaugural Team Temple Race Day will occur at the Ed Temple Track on the Tennessee State University campus. The event will feature a 5k race and other track events.
