Marathon Prepared For Warm Temps

Organizers Triple Ice Orders

The higher weekend temperatures might not be the best news for runners participating in Saturday's Country Music Marathon.

Channel 4 Pinpoint Meteorologist Lisa Spencer said the temperature will be about 60 at the start time, but it will warm up quickly and be in the 80s before many runners finish.

Race organizers are asking everyone to be prepared, especially runners who have been training in cooler weather.

There will be spray stations throughout the course to keep people cool, and organizers have tripled ice orders. Volunteers will also pass out salt to runners.

"We are totally ready for this. In fact, people are not going to even realize it's warm outside because we're going to be able to deal with this like it's any regular day," said Country Music Marathon Medical Director Dr. Louis Maharam.

Organizers advise runners should slow down or stop if they get too hot or feel dizzy.

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jason Mraz will be running in this year's half-marathon. Mraz is in town with The Dave Matthews Band for a show Saturday night at Vanderbilt University Stadium.

The Country Music Marathon starts at Centennial Park at 7 a.m. Saturday.
