Nashville's Bid Committee for the tournament hosted a national teleconference telling which five cities will host from 2012 to 2016.

The Women's Final Four sites are:
  • 2012 – Denver.
  • 2013 – New Orleans.
  • 2014 – Nashville.
  • 2015 – Tampa Bay.
  • 2016 – Indianapolis.

"The women's basketball committee invested a tremendous amount of time and effort in the Women's Final Four site selection process," said Jacki Silar, chair of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee and associate director of athletics at Duke University. "It was a very difficult and important decision and it was the committee's charge to determine which of the cities would best serve as future host sites for the pinnacle of women's basketball – the Women's Final Four."

The Nashville Sports Council said it felt optimistic the city would be one of the five to host the tournament. The council has been working for about a year to get the city to host.

"This event is one of the most high profile annual events on the national sports calendar and will bring tremendous national exposure, prestige and economic impact to our community. We look forward to beginning the planning and preparation to host an unforgettable experience for the student-athletes, fans and everyone associated with the Women's Final Four," said Nashville Sports Council President and CEO Scott Ramsey in a press release.

This is the first time that Nashville and Denver will host the event. The games will be held in Nashville at the Sommet Center.

When evaluating prospective host cities, the committee said among the items they reviewed were each city's venue, convention center, hotel community and commitment to the event.
