The Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team has tried for five years to get a new downtown ballpark.

Channel 4 reporter Aaron Solomon asked Sounds general manager Glenn Yaeger, "At what point do you explore possibilities outside Davidson County?"

"We're getting close to that point because of the pressure we're getting from major league and minor league baseball," said Yaeger.

That may be music to the ears of officials in the suburbs.

State Rep. Diane Black had said that she would love to have the team in Sumner County.

The city of Franklin has expressed interest in the past, but new Mayor John Schroer told Channel 4 News on Monday that he is not interested in pursuing the team for his town.

Despite having a lot of problems getting a new downtown ballpark, the Sounds are committed to staying in Nashville.

To meet minor league requirements, they recently had to spend $850,000 on a brand new clubhouse in center field.

"We've been focused on getting something done in downtown Nashville. Even people who state they'd like to see it in another county agree the most value for the community is downtown Nashville," said Yaeger. "Giving up has never been an option. We know how important baseball is to Nashville. Giving up is nothing the Sounds want to do or the city of Nashville wants to do."

"It will happen. We feel comfortable that it will happen. It'll just take a little bit longer," said state Sen. Thelma Harper.

The mayor's office is standing by what it's been saying for weeks. They said they needs to see a comprehensive proposal from the team that details what the team will put into the deal.
