The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that Officer Christopher Harris took advantage of the night shift to break into several businesses in Gordonsville.

Harris, 34, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of burglarizing four businesses while on duty as a patrolman on the overnight shift.

Petty Pools said they were taken by Harris but that it’s what he took that surprised owner Richard Petty.

“We thought maybe young people or a woman was involved,” Petty said.

He said about 50 bottles of spa fragrance and lotion and rolls of quarters from the register were taken.

Lakeside Auto Transit said they were missing a monitor, a coat rack and some die cast cars.

They said to replace everything it will cost a couple hundred dollars.

One victim said that the police are “supposed to be here to protect us.”

Harris is charged with four counts of burglary. He is out on bond and is due to appear in court on June 7.

The TBI is still investigating.

Harris worked for the Carthage Police Department from 1997 to 2000 and has worked for Gordonsville since.
