Apartment Fire Evacuates Greenbrier Families

GREENBRIER, Tenn. -- Five families in Robertson County will be looking for another place to spend the holidays after a fire ripped through their apartments Friday morning.SLIDESHOW: Greenbrier Fire Evacuate FamiliesThe fire occurred in a back bedroom of a unit in the Ridgewood apartments in Greenbrier. Six people were inside the home when the fire started.Everyone escaped safely, but a pet cat died in the blaze. All of the families' Christmas gifts were destroyed by the fire.
"(The flames were) coming through the windows when we arrived on the scene. We called out all our mutual aid departments, which consist of about four departments, so we had a good backup of water supply," said Chief Billy Wilson of the Greenbrier Fire Department.The Red Cross said it will help the families with any immediate needs.One apartment is a total loss. Families will be able to return to the other four units on Saturday.
