NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A case of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, has been reported in Wilson County.A student at Gladeville Elementary has the strain, according to school officials.There was another report of MRSA at a Lebanon city school.School officials said they thought a girl had staph over fall break but that turned out not to be the case.
MRSA is a strain of staph infection that can be resistant to antibiotics.Six Robertson County Schools Report InfectionsSix schools have a total of 15 cases of staph in Robertson County.Jo Byrns High School, Greenbrier High School, Greenbrier Elementary and White House Heritage each have had one case.East Elementary had two cases, and East Robertson High School had the most cases with between five and 10.School officials said most of the cases were tied to the athletics department.Of all 15 cases, three were MRSA, officials said.Cookeville Students Heads Back To ClassSome Cookeville children who were shut out of school Thursday because of the MRSA strain of staph infection will go back on Friday.Sycamore Elementary in Cookeville was closed so workers could disinfect it.Officials there said a student was infected with MRSA.
