SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -- A former Springfield High School football star has been found guilty of shooting a police officer.A jury convicted Melchico Gardener on Wednesday night.Gardener was a patient at Northcrest Medical Center in March when he attacked Officer Curtis Scott and grabbed his gun.The two struggled and the gun went off, hitting Scott in the stomach, authorities said.
Gardener is set to be sentenced next month.
