DEBATE WEEK IS HERE

POSTED: 11:38 pm CDT October 5, 2008
UPDATED: 11:41 pm CDT October 5, 2008

The planning is finished. Showtime is just two days away and Belmont University is ready.

Final touches are being made on the debate set in the Curb Event Center. As my colleague, Deanna Lambert reported tonight, the exact number of people allowed inside will determined once the floor plan is complete. Bottom line, only a few will be fortunate enough to see the exchange in person.

Across campus, golf carts have replaced cars. The carts are serving as a taxi service of sorts, taking staff members, even reporters to the various locations surrounding the debate site. You'll also see generators, phone lines and tubs filled with bottle water. This small Southern campus looks more like a small city.

Of course the media presence is large. Already some familiar faces are in town. But expect the list of power players spotted in Nashville to grow soon. I'm told there will be political power players on campus on debate day to offer their spin. Who can we expect? No confirmed names just yet. However, Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright was among those giving post-debate commentary at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS.

This has been an up-to-minute campaign. Expect to see that same approach here in Nashville. The plans made today may change tomorrow.
