NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The election commission met on Tuesday to explore the possibility of allowing voters to cast paper ballots in November.
Video: Election Commission Considers Paper BallotsState law requires all counties to use optical scan ballots by November 2010 but some are hoping to start early in Davidson County. The Metro Election Commission discussed the possibility of using the optical scan machines at an early voting precinct in November.
Paper ballot supporters argue that the current computerized machines can be manipulated and don't leave any type of paper trail. With the optical scan machines, voters would fill out a paper ballot, which would then be scanned through a machine. The ballots would be held in a locked container and would only be used if there is a recount.Earlier this month, the Metro Council passed a resolution recommending that the election commission purchase optical scan machines.
