As the Democratic National Convention begins in Denver, the pace is picking up at Belmont University, which will hold the second of three presidential debates.

All of the key players in the presidential election will be in Nashville on Oct. 7 as the school hosts a town-hall-style debate.

"There will be some tickets available to the campaign, some tickets to the commission, but they will not be available to the public," said Pamela Johnson, Belmont's debate planning director.

Currently anybody who drives near the Belmont's campus will see signs posted that hype the event, but the school is hoping the world will be aware that Nashville is hosting a debate when Gov. Phil Bredesen speaks at the convention on Wednesday.

"Bredesen will announce, 'As head of the Tennessee delegation, from the great state of Tennessee, home of the 2008 Town Hall Presidential debates at Belmont University, casts its ballots,'" said Johnson.

All of Tennessee's representatives at the Democratic and Republican conventions will be wearing Belmont stickers and pins as another way to plug the October debate.

Since seating is very limited to watch the debate, Belmont is organizing lots of activities throughout the day and encouraging people to host watch parties at night.

Those who are among the VIPs or 3,000 media groups who get inside to watch will not only witness history, but leave with a bag full of Tennessee treats including Tennessee teacakes and Nashville-made Goo Goo Cluster candy bars.
