The U.S. presidential race is heating up and Belmont University is preparing for its fall town-hall-style debate.

The debate is scheduled for Oct. 7, but the college said they won't know until three days from that date how many tickets they will have available.

Officials said they don't know how the tickets will be distributed, which is up to the Commission on Presidential Debates.

The event will take place at the Curb Event Center, which can hold 5,500. The commission is still working on the set up for the televised debate set. Once they know the configuration for television purposes, the number of tickets for the event will be set.

Belmont may not have a lot of control of how many tickets they get, but they are planning several related programs for next school year, such as a speaker series, arts programs and a debate viewing party on campus.

About 900 People Allowed To Attend Previous Town Hall Debates

In the past town hall debates at Washington University in St. Louis, 900 people were allowed to attend. About two-thirds were chosen by the Republican and Democratic parties.

One-hundred forty participants were undecided voters chosen by the Gallup organization, and finally 150 tickets were given to students by lottery.

School faculty and the school's chancellor at Washington University didn't get to attend the event.
