A group pushing for retail food stores to be allowed to sell wine has added more recommendations to its list.

The Tennessee Grocers and Convenience Store Association recommended on Tuesday that liquor stores also be permitted to sell items that are related to wine and liquor.

The recommendations are part of an amendment to the bill that would permit the sale of wine in retail food stores.

According to a release from the TGCSA, the bill’s amendment would also allow liquor stores to sell ice, soft drinks, mixes normally associated with alcoholic beverages, glasses, corkscrews and other wine-related items.

The TGCSA has also been pushing the original bill that would allow retail food stores to sell wine.

Like the original bill, the group cites convenience and consumer demand as reasons for its latest recommendations.

"This recommendation has obvious benefits for the consumer in terms of choice, convenience and reducing unnecessary trips – much like wine sales in retail food stores. It also allows liquor store owners to add product lines their customers want," said TGCSA President Jarron Springer.

The amendment to the bill excludes “roadside markets, vending machines and establishments selling only gasoline, cigarettes and/or beer,” the release said.

The bill is sponsored by state representatives Bill Ketron and Randy Rinks.
