NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Now that Karl Dean has won the election to become Nashville's next mayor, residents are asking what they can expect from Metro's former legal director.
Mayor-elect Karl Dean was busy Wednesday making the rounds around the city and visited Channel 4 to explain how he will lead the city.He said first on his agenda is curbing Nashville's dropout rate."I think we need a group advising me on what the causes are and then determining what solutions are implementing them," said Dean.Along with education, Dean said he knows what Nashvillians fear: crime and higher property taxes. And he said the city should not expect a change in leadership in the police department."I think overall Chief Serpas is doing a good job, and I have a good relationship with him," said Dean.Nashvillians should not count on a property tax increase either, said the mayor-elect."I think the voters have indicated they want a city government to live within its means and find other sources of revenue," said Dean. This former Metro Law Director said he wants both the Sounds and Predators sports teams to stay in Nashville but hasn't forgotten his legal roots."You've got to know what in the legal documents, the financial ramifications, you've got to be cautious in that sense," said Dean.
