Buck Dozier

History

Buck Dozier was born and raised in the Sylvan Park area of Nashville. He is also a product of Nashville’s public school system and a graduate of David Lipscomb University. Dozier has worked as a counselor, coach and teacher and is currently the vice president of a Nashville mortgage company. Dozier has served on the Metro Council as an at-large member since 2004.

Family

Dozier and his wife, Sandra, have been married for 38 years. They have two children.

Agenda

Dozier says he wants to make Nashville “The Athens of Education in America.” Dozier said all the candidates will say education is a priority, but “what will distinguish one from the other will be what each candidate really means when they say they are pro-education.”

Dozier recalls when Nashville was nicknamed the Athens of the South. “We were home to progressive thinkers, home to numerous institutions of higher learning, and because, like ancient Greece, thinking and learning were held in high regard,” he said on his Web site.

Dozier said the mayor and the mayor’s office should be education activists. He said he will create more learning environments and ensure safer learning environments for children.

Dozier said on his Web site that his proposals are “an effort to take bold steps to bring other resources to the table, to seek out best practices wherever they are, and to look beyond our own inner circle for new ideas and a new way of teaching our children.”
