NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A federal clerk confirmed Tuesday that the federal indictment against Perry March has been dismissed.March was set to face trial for conspiracy and solicitation in a plot to kill his former in-laws, Larry and Carolyn Levine.March’s current sentence of 56 years in prison will stand and no additional time will be added through federal charges.March had already been convicted of murdering his wife, Janet, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation of murder.Reporter Dennis Ferrier said Tuesday's ruling was quite typical of a case when someone is charged with the same crime both federally and at the state level. If the federal interest is vindicated the proceedings typically do not go forward. This means that if March had received a two-year prison sentence, the justice system likely would have prosecuted him further. But since March had already received 24 years in jail for these charges, the prosecution said it felt that the sentence is justified.
