Timothy Rush, 34, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and DUI.

"It's a shame a drunk driver can take a life like that," one witness said as Rush was being placed into the back of a police cruiser.

According to witnesses, an SUV driven by Rush slammed broadside into a Cadillac at the intersection of West Main Street and Center Point Road around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police identified the driver of the Cadillac as Calvin Miller Jr., 29. He was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

"He didn't even stop; he tried to keep going," a witness said of Rush, whose SUV ran off the road and snapped a utility pole.

A third car was also caught up in the crash, but the driver and passenger did not suffer any injuries.

Rush was transported to Sumner County Jail and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court later in the month.
