Jo Eva Davis' house on Panter Road in Warren County went up in flames Wednesday morning.

Davis had woken up and gone to her kitchen for a snack when she smelled smoke. She got out but had to be flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center for smoke inhalation, officials said.

Davis was retired from teaching at Irving College School.

A family member told Channel 4 that Davis is improving and is expected to make a full recovery.
