Police Chief Paul Blackwell said 20-year-old Thomas F. Greenwood Jr. was being held on a $2 million bond.

The chief said Wednesday that ambulance personnel who responded to Greenwood's 911 call Tuesday noted bruising on the child, Haydon Gage West. Blackwell said a preliminary medical examiner's report shows "blunt force trauma" as the cause of death.

The child's mother was not at home.

Blackwell said Greenwood told investigators he suffered a seizure and "during his seizure the child struck a bed post."

Blackwell said Greenwood did not yet have an attorney and was taken to the Coffee County Jail.

The boy's funeral is planned for Sunday afternoon at the Coffee County Funeral Home. The visitation is Saturday.
