NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Fire nearly destroyed a group of townhomes in south Nashville Wednesday morning, but thanks to some caring neighbors and good construction, everyone was able to get out safely. The blaze started at about 1:30 a.m. at the Woodridge Townhomes on Flintlock Court off Nashboro Road.According to officials, the fire sparked in the back room of one of the center units. That residence was partially involved when crews arrived at the scene. Two people living inside that unit were able to get out, and they headed straight to their neighbors' front doors to make sure they did, too.“Someone came and rang my door bell,” said Woodridge resident Lois Armstrong. “When I walked downstairs, I didn’t see anyone ... then I heard someone yell, ‘Get out, get out!””The unit in which the blaze started was destroyed, but the neighboring homes were only damaged.“The reason only (the center unit) was burned is because they have really good fire stops in this building,” said Metro Fire Captain Randall Thomas at the scene. “Our units had time to get water on the fire and make a good interior attack. That’s why only one unit was badly damaged.”Investigators are still trying to determine what caused that blaze. No injuries were reported.
