NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Nashville-based entertainment company and a organization from Mississippi were awarded on Tuesday the contract to hold the state fair this summer.
Nashville's Rockhouse Partners and North American Midway Entertainment of Ridgeland, Miss., will produce the last fair at the city's fairgrounds.Rockhouse prides itself as a technology, entertainment agency for music, sports and live events. The company’s public relations spokeswoman said that this year, "there will be a huge music and agricultural component ... along with the carnival."When asked if there will be a separate music concert this year, the spokeswoman said that won't be announced until later, but the company would keep working on their plans. In the company’s proposal March 1, it promised to pay fair market rent and compensation to the city for every gate admission sold, as well as compensation for a proposed 2010 music event. It also plans to continue to distribute free tickets to Davidson County school children. The fair is scheduled to be held Sept. 10-19.The fair board and staff also announced Tuesday that there will not be a traditional weekly racing series at the fairgrounds track for 2010. It was determined that the traditional five- or six-month-long weekly race season was not financially feasible, said Buck Dozier, executive director of the Fairgrounds.Different opinions about what to do with the state fairgrounds have kept meetings heated for several months.Nashville Mayor Karl Dean's proposal last fall to close the fairgrounds was not received well by many people. The mayor said the fairgrounds loses money every year and needs to be redeveloped to create an economic boost.
