Suspect Captured After Mother Killed, Son Beaten

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Police on Tuesday morning arrested the man suspected of killing a woman and beating her quadriplegic son in Dickson County on Monday.
Police found James Dale Hamilton, 50, at his brother's home in White Bluff, Tenn., located along Wolf Road. Hamilton's brother alerted authorities that the suspected killer was at his home.Hamilton was taken into custody without incident. Police said on Tuesday they found a gun that they believed was involved in Monday's shooting.Authorities had been looking for him since Monday when he allegedly attacked 62-year-old Faye Lynn and beat her disabled son.Hamilton faces first-degree and attempted first-degrees murder charges. He is being held on a $2 million bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday afternoon but was postponed.Neighbors said Hamilton lived with the Lynn and her husband from time-to-time in the past six weeks. The attack occurred at the Lynns' house located along Lake Circle.Lynn’s quadriplegic son, Doug, who is bedridden, was also beaten. Police took him to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville."It's just mindboggling," said neighbor Sidney Nance. "This is a devastating thing not only for our church, our congregation, but this is devastating to humanity that a saint has been taken from us."Police said Lynn’s husband was in the garage at the time of the assaults."He stayed about every third night or so," neighbor Jacky Clifton said about Hamilton. "Faye would wash his clothes, make his meals ... Faye was one of the sweetest, most gentle people that you would ever want to know."All 14 of the county's schools were on modified lock down Monday afternoon, meaning the schools monitored who was coming and going. Classes weren't affected, and students weren't locked in classrooms.Reporter Cynthia Williams contributed to this story.
