SPRING HILL, Tenn. -- A Spring Hill police officer injured in a crash Friday night died at Vanderbilt Medical Center Sunday.
Officials confirm Cpl. Jeremy McLaren, 28, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday.McLaren's leg was broken in the crash at the intersection of Highway 31 North and Bear Creek near the Columbia city limits.According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a red truck driven by Billy Colen Stafford of Shelbyville ran through a red light at the intersection, and collided with McLaren's cruiser. The impact pushed the officer's car into a nearby parking lot. McLaren had to be cut out of the wreckage.McLaren underwent surgery to insert pins in his broken leg on Saturday.Earlier in the morning, Spring Hill Police Chief John H. Smith said McLaren's condition was improving and that he had been getting up and moving around.Stafford and his passenger, Jina Pratt of Columbia, were both injured in the Saturday crash. THP officials said they were transported to Vanderbilt for treatment. Pratt was released from the hospital Saturday. There was no information available on Stafford's condition.According to the THP, there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene. No one has been cited or arrested in connection with the wreck. Services For Officer Visitation for McLaren will take place at the Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, 3009 Columbia Avenue in Franklin, on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m., and again Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.McLaren's funeral service will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church, located at 7777 Concord Road, on Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.An education fund in honor of McLaren is being established for his nephew, Steven McLaren Jr., at US Bank.
