A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Sunday night after being shot during a home invasion in Columbia.

According to a release from the Columbia Police Department, four black men forced their way into an apartment at 1614 B South Main Street at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Seven men were inside the apartment at the time of the robbery, police said. After the gunmen entered the apartment, they demanded money.

One of the victims, 39, attempted to run to a back room. When he did, one of the suspects followed the man and shot him at least one time.

The shooter and the other robbers then fled the scene.

EMS crews treated the victim at the scene before he was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center for surgery.

Police were still searching for the robbers Monday morning.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 931-380-2721 or Crime Stoppers at 931-381-4900.
