NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A high school junior was arrested Monday afternoon for having a 9-mm pistol in his vehicle, police said.

The 17-year-old had an unloaded pistol in a gym bag in his SUV’s backseat. School resource officers began their investigation after receiving a tip.

The boy, who has been charged with possessing a firearm on school grounds, said the gun was for recreational target practice.
