NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Developer Tony Giarratana will no longer serve as the head developer for the proposed May Town Center in west Nashville, according to a Wednesday afternoon press release.Giarratana was retained in October 2007 to coordinate planning and zoning aspects for a mixed-use development in Bells Bend."Without a specific timeline for the project in place at this time, we feel that this direction will allow the most flexibility for May Town Center while allowing Tony to pursue his other interests,” said Jack May, who owns the land where the project would be built. "We appreciate Tony's efforts throughout the past two years and will continue to evaluate next steps for our Bells Bend property."Despite leaving the project, Giarratana still supports building the complex."I continue to feel strongly that two-acre subdivisions as currently zoned is not in Nashville’s best interest," said Giarratana. "Smart sustainable growth in development of the May property is critical to Nashville's ability to compete for corporate retention and relocation."Earlier this year, the Metro Planning Commission and City Council rejected the project.Developers want to build office, retail and condominiums in the Bells Bend area but have faced opposition for some area neighbors.
