NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A late-night meal sparked a fire that destroyed a Green Hills apartment early Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out at about 2 a.m. on Matthew Lane just north of Woodmond Boulevard off Hillsboro Road.Officials said a grease fire on the stove inside the apartment rose up into a vent and spread to the walls and ceiling. The flames destroyed the unit but fire crews were able to put out the blaze before it could damage any of the apartments next door or upstairs. The people living at the apartment got out safely, but their cat was lost in the fire.
