Fort Campbell To Receive $87M In Construction Funds

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- People in Montgomery County are hoping Wednesday's announcement of $87 million in construction funds going to Fort Campbell will mean a veterans nursing home in the county.
For several years, the city and county have met their part: They got the land and the funds ready for a third of it -- they budgeted for $6 million.“Passage of the Senate bill gets us another step closer to making these crucial investments at Fort Campbell and to make the VA understand what many of us have long known: that middle Tennessee veterans deserve a nursing home in Montgomery County,” said U.S. Rep. John Tanner in a statement.It's up to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to decide how the $87 million is spent.Montgomery County has about 58,000 veterans, 22,000 of whom are disabled.There are three veterans nursing homes in Tennessee.Reporter Carley Gordon is working on this story and will have a full report on Channel 4 News at 6:00.
